Brazil Truckers Strike for Fourth Day

Large parts of Latin America’s largest economy are seizing up.

Truckers across Brazil have been striking for four days, furious at the price of diesel. Highways have been blocked. Fresh meat and fruit are becoming scarce. And, what’s more, the administration of lame-duck President Michel Temer is struggling to neutralize the threat to a fragile recovery from a record recession.

On Thursday, drivers lined up for hours to get gasoline as the work stoppage showed little sign of ending. Carrefour Brasil said it was limiting purchases at its supermarkets nationwide and sugar mills stopped due to the lack of diesel. Several auto assembly plants are idle without parts to build cars, and the largest port in Latin America is running out of soyabeans to load onto vessels. At one Copacabana McDonald’s, there were no buns for the Big Macs.

Above is from bloomburg news...but as usual the MSM does not cover the true story. There are reports of shortages starting in grocery stores...sugar,oil,flour and rice...

Exports from Brazil will be dropping off just as fast as is effecting their country...

The trickle effect time to watch this carefully...funny how this has been going on for 4 days and it is just hitting news sources now...

Oh and from I have been reading Brazilians are now facing water shortages to their houses..being warned to boil water as they cannot get chemicals to the water plants..if we watch we can learn

Brazilian Military Deployed To Break Up Trucking Strike As State Of Emergency Worsens

A nationwide trucking strike in Brazil entered day six on Saturday, as blocked roads have prevented critical food and supplies from reaching their destinations.

The protests, triggered by a 50% spike in fuel prices over the last year, have resulted in the declaration of a state of emergency across most major cities as shelves run bare and fuel supplies dwindle. Airports have reported running out of fuel, hospitals are running out of supplies, and public transport and trash collection have been reduced or halted across the country. Some food prices have also spiked as supplies dwindle. As we noted on Friday, a lack of livestock feed threatens a billion chickens and 20 million pigs who may starve to death.

Brazilian export group ABPA said that over 150 poultry and pork processing plants had indefinitely suspended production, while Brazil's sugar industry - the world's largest - is slowly halting cane harvest operations as their machines run out of fuel.

Following the effects of the truckers strike

Across Brazil factories have been forced to shut down. In São Paulo only a third of buses were running, queues for gasoline at petrol stations continued and schools and universities suspended classes. Supermarket shelves in central Rio were bare of fruit and vegetables, bus services were reduced, schools were closed and the city had an enforced holiday feel.

“It’s all empty there, take a look,” said Marcos Colal, a supermarket manager in central Rio, gesturing at empty fruit and vegetables shelves. “We haven’t had any medicines delivered in a week, not one,” said Paulo Galvão, manager of a nearby pharmacy. “I’m very worried.”

Brazilians have been left shocked by the waste of food caused by strike – such as 300m litres of milk that the country’s Dairy Products Association said had been thrown away, and 64m birds the Association of Animal Protein said had to be put down. It added that 1bn more birds were at risk.
